Step 1 – Set up a Free Consultation – We are usually able to accommodate evaluation consultations within one week. In our office meeting, we’ll discuss the symptoms you’re experiencing and your history, the recommended treatment for your specific condition, typical responses to treatment, length of treatment and provide answers to all your questions. This purely informational meeting is completely no-obligation. If you decide to go forward, we’ll set up an appointment for a Testing Evaluation.
Step 2 – Testing Evaluation – In your second appointment, we look at the brain from different angles using different testing modalities. The complete testing takes approximately two hours. The first step is a QEEG, or quantitative EEG, which involves placing a cap with sensors on the head and recording data. We artifact, edit the data and compare to a normative data base. This shows how your brain compares to someone else, your gender and age. We also do the IVA (Independent Variable Analysis) that determines how the brain responds to visual and auditory stimulus, indicating how the brain will respond at work or school. A neurocognitive test is done that identifies ADHD, depression, anxiety and learning differences. These tests provide a baseline to measure your improvement and see the per cent of change that is created with the neuro.
Step 3 – Diagnosis and Treatment Plan – We review all the testing within the next week and will go over your results with you. The QEEG provides us with a visual brain map that shows where the over or under activation occurs. The average treatment plan will include 20 sessions of neurofeedback, and several sessions of biofeedback, depending on the situation. Each treatment plan is customized to meet the individual needs of each client. Each session ranges from 40 to 60 minutes long and training needs to be done twice a week for optimal results. It is easy to create change in the brain, the hard part is getting the brain to hold the change. That is the benefit of repetitive training. Practice makes perfect.
Step 4 – Begin training. In the first training session we will establish goals and determine what benchmarks we will use to measure your improvement. Extra time is spent to insure that you understand how biofeedback/neurofeedback works and what you can do at home to enhance the self regulation that is being created. Most people will see some positive changes around the 7th session.
